Days are getting colder here in Germany and it is time to enjoy a filling soup. It is our habit to have a soup at dinner time during the cold seasons until days get warmer again. I usually make a soup using whatever vegetables are in season and to adjust smoothly to a real "wintry" kind of soup,

Butternut squash, apple and walnut cake

As you already know, Sunday is a special day in our family. Therefore I usually try to bake a cake. If I am running out of time, I will go for a crumble but otherwise I will bake a cake. This morning I was going to go for "flognarde" which is a special French cake with apples (which I will post about soon) but I had some butternut squash puree left in my freezer so I decided to go for this lovely butternut squash,

French culture: celebrating la Chandeleur !

Candlemas is around the corner and I have prepared some fun activities to do in the French class to celebrate this special event. Potato, kohlrabi and smoked trout gratin

I now have a "big" family and so far I have to feed five people everyday (3 boys and 2 adults but my boys eat nearly like adults!). Needless to say I am looking for easy big meals which can last for a few days so I don't spend my days slaving in the kitchen.
